People are happiest when they see that I came quickly!

If your car stops in the middle of the road, he is the man you will call. Igor Jurić (43) is the driver of the ORYX Assistance tow truck and his job is to make your life easier. And he does his job with dedication and – great.

Igor, how long have you been in this business?
I have been in this business for almost three years, before that I drove trucks. This job is much different now, I have more contacts with people and everything is somehow more interesting and dynamic .

How’s your work day?
On my eight-hour workday, I go out on average for four to five assists, although there can be a lot more of them, for example, in the summer season. If we calculate that one intervention lasts about 2 hours , especially if the city is crowded, it all comes in one day. When the colder weather comes, there are more problems with the batteries, I usually solve it with a starter and move on to another intervention.

What area do you cover and how many miles do you cover on average?
I cover the City of Zagreb, but they also know how to call me around Zagreb. On average, I travel 200-300 kilometers a day, which is quite a lot. There are almost no places to rest, except for the one prescribed by the tachograph, which is 15 minutes of rest and 30 minutes of rest the second time. I’m in operation the rest of the day!

What are the most common calls?
Most often people call us when something breaks and they just stop. After that, collisions are in second place, but it is not uncommon for them to call us to change their tire or battery. So why not? When we already offer this service to our customers, and it’s five minutes of work for us , why should they get their hands dirty and bother themselves. In winter, the most common calls are to light their battery with a booster, or take off from the road if they did not put on winter tires on time.

Do women and men call for a change of tires, or?
And no, everyone calls the same, you would be amazed! People mostly think that we will fix their car on the spot, but unfortunately in many cases additional diagnostics are needed . However, we solve everything quickly, people are scared, angry, frustrated in these situations and we always have understanding and we meet our needs to the maximum.

How was your summer season? Then you’re in for a rush, aren’t you?
Of course. More tourists means more accidents on the bypass. The crowds are big, the columns are long, you don’t notice the road works on time and that’s the only way a chain collision happens. Towing services on these important roads are very important, because until we remove the car from the road, there is no normalization of traffic . People still don’t understand it sometimes, so they don’t create a emergency corridor > . Since we only have a yellow rotator and no sound signals, they don’t part with us like police and ambulance.

Do you find it easier to work in the winter or summer?
In winter, because in summer you can’t cool down. When the asphalt glows, so do I and the truck, so no climate can cool it. Although in summer people are much more impatient. For example, when I have to remove a car from the Green Wave in the morning, no one can wait 5 minutes. And that literally takes 5 minutes!

Surely among the complicated interventions you have the ones that are funny and unusual!
> Of course, this summer a man took a car from <ahref=”https://www.oryx-rent.hr/”> rent a cara . He normally drives an old Škoda, and he got it for rent. He came with his wife and children and when their car stopped, they pushed him several streets to find a parking lot . In the end it turned out that he just needed to squeeze the clutch and brake so he could start the car. The woman, on the other hand, went wild at him when she heard this, because he had previously yelled at people from rent a car, and he himself could have helped them. We didn’t blame him, he was sorry enough!

Were there any inconveniences at work?
I can freely say that I have never had any inconveniences, because as soon as I come with a tow truck, my will is better. It’s probably different when they talk to the Call Center, because then they can be angry or scared, but when I come, it’s like lifeguards have come to them. My colleagues know how to break a cable or strap when loading a vehicle, of course there are accidents outside our control, but with a little luck and a lot of internal control of the vehicle, I did not have those cases.

Igor is the best ORYX driver, and I met them all! Hardworking, diligent, precise, and at the same time fast, always smiling and friendly. When I worked in the Call Center, I would always comment on the specifics and interesting things from the field at the end of my working hours.
